The East Men’s soccer team won a thriller in the first round of playoffs against Apex on Wednesday, November 3rd. After Apex tied the game at the end of regulation, Wildcat victory was hard-fought.
In the beginning of the game, Sophomore Dean Taechapisutthul scored a goal to give the Wildcats an early advantage. The Wildcats held this lead until the end of the game, when Apex scored a goal with only a few minutes remaining. After both teams went scoreless through two rounds of overtime, penalty kicks were to decide the outcome of the game.
East senior Adam Kurdi scored the first penalty kick for the Wildcats, while Apex missed their first penalty by hitting the cross bar. East cashed in on the rest of their penalty kicks, with their goalkeeper Dan Jackson allowing Apex only two of four attempts.
Although they had a fantastic season, the East men’s soccer team was knocked out of the state playoffs on Saturday, November 6th. The two Wildcat goals scored by seniors Ciaran Bermingham and Dylan Sheedy didn’t hold up to Fuquay-Varina’s three goals.
