The East women’s basketball program is off to a promising 2-0 start including a 39-33 home win over Chapel Hill High School on Dec 3. Junior, Taylor Tate, who knocked down several clutch three-pointers, led the team in scoring with 20 points.

“Taylor Tate has been a great addition to our team,” said senior team captain Aileen Savino .

Tate, who recently transferred from a two-time state championship winning program in Buford, GA, has provided an offensive spark to a somewhat inexperienced women’s basketball team.

“This year will be a challenge because we have a lot of new players on varsity and a lot of us have never played together before this year,” Savino said

“If we can fill our potential and this group of girls that have never played together before can come together, I believe we can make a run in the playoffs.

”The women’s basketball team looks to improve on the previous years 11-9 record and 4th place finish in the conference. To do so, players put in the work in the preseason in order to be able to accomplish their goals this season.

“The preseason this year was intended to enhance our physical conditioning of the team so that we can have the ability to outwork our opponents,” Savino said.

The wildcats started off their in-conference schedule against Jordan on Dec. 10 and Riverside on Dec. 14; these teams finished 6th and 7th respectively in the conference last year.
