Joanne Rowling, who is more commonly known as J.K. Rowling, created the Harry Potter universe over 20 years ago. Since then, the Wizarding World of Harry Potter has only grown.
Originally, there were seven books which started with “Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone” and finished with “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.” With those seven books came eight movies and the beginning of the vast group of fans. But the Harry Potter Universe did not stop there. Many more books and a few new movies were released along with various games, expanding the Wizarding World of Harry Potter
On November 8th, 2017 there was an official announcement on Pottermore, the official Harry Potter website, regarding a new company called Portkey Games. Portkey Games is a brand new label, coming from Warner Bros. The new Interactive Entertainment brings new mobile and console games sparking from Rowling’s Wizarding World. So far there have been two official game announcements: Harry Potter: Wizards Unite and Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery.
Harry Potter: Wizards Unite is a similar game to the popular Pokémon GO where the player explores the virtual world while playing the game. Throughout the game, players gets to experience adventures in the wizarding world while being in the real world. During some of the adventures, players could run into characters from the wizarding world or be instructed to find magical beasts.
Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery allows players create their own character and become a student at Hogwarts. In some ways, it is fanfiction come to life. The mobile game, which is set to release some time in the upcoming year, allows for the created character to experience life as a Hogwarts student, doing some of the similar tasks that Harry, Ron, and Hermione did in the books and movies
The Wizarding World of Harry Potter is a never-ending, immortalized adventure with many fans. Now that Portkey Games is around there is yet another chapter opening up for the fans along side the new Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them movies. Despite the release date of the two games not being concrete, one thing is for sure, fans will be there until the very end.
